Peugeot's all-new 3008 is mighty impressive. In the last year, it’s won the European Car of the Year, and was nominated as a finalist for the 2018 SA Car of the Year.

Equipped with the latest generation of Peugeot's driver oriented i-Cockpit, the latest safety technologies as well as radical good looks, the 3008 proves that it has what it takes to be a real contender in the fiercely competitive compact SUV market, going up against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Renault Kadjar, Toyota RAV4 and the Hyundai Tucson to name a few.

In January, Peugeot extended the 3008 SUV range with the introduction of a diesel-powered engine, to supplement its existing petrol version. The 3008 Active and Allure models now comprise of two engine variants, the 121kw/240nm 1.6 THP Auto and the 110kw/370nm 2.0 litre HDi. In Active spec, the HDi motor sends power to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox (incidentally, the only manual in the range). The oil burner boasts claimed fuel economy of 5L/100kms.

The Peugeot 3008 isn't cheap, but instead aimed at discerning buyers who want a premium crossover with a touch of individuality.

Pricing for the 3008 range is:

Peugeot 3008 Active 1,6 THP: R414 900

Peugeot 3008 Allure 1,6 THP: R459 900

Peugeot 3008 Active 2,0 HDi: R474 900

Peugeot 3008 Allure+ 1,6 THP: R479 900

Peugeot 3008 GT-Line 1,6 THP: R519 900

Peugeot 3008 Allure 2,0 HDi: R520 900

Should You Buy It?

The Peugeot 3008 is a solid choice if you're after something different in the compact SUV space, but it's definitely not the budget option. Starting at R414,900 and climbing to nearly R585,000, you're paying a premium for French flair and that distinctive i-Cockpit setup. The diesel models offer excellent fuel economy at 5L/100km, but they'll cost you more upfront than the petrol variants. If you want the best value compact SUV under R500,000 in SA, the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V might serve you better, but if individuality matters more than your bank balance, the 3008 delivers European sophistication with genuine road presence. Buy it if you're tired of seeing the same SUVs at every robot, skip it if you prioritise value over style.
